India vs England 2014: 4th Test, Day 2 - Play abandoned for the day

Posted by admin | | Posted in

New Delhi: Indian pacemen displayed a brilliant spell of seam bowling during the first session for India on Day 2 of the fourth Test being played at Old Trafford, Manchester.

India vs England 2014: 4th Test, Day 2 - Play abandoned for the day

England, 1st innings:

PLAY ABANDONED FOR THE DAY

Rain has interrupted the proceedings and the players are off the field.

Over 70 || Score 234/6

Root and Buttler continue to frustrate India with their determination. The Indian seamers have bowled well but post lunch, their accuracy hasn't been up to the mark. The partnership is now worth 64 runs and Dhoni would now be worried as his side had reduced England to 170/6 at one stage.

Joe Root 48* (94b) Jos Buttler 22* (53b)

Over 62 || Score 201/6

Lunch: Root and Buttler have made sure that England don't lose any more wickets. It was India's session where their seamers bowled their heart out. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar made the best of the seaming conditions, the star for India in that session was Varun Aaron who bowled with a lot of venom and looked extremely impressive. England now lead by 49 runs with four wickets in hand.

Joe Root 23* (60b) Jos Buttler 13* (33b)

Over 55 || Score 185/6

Aaron was looking very impressive today and he bowled a gem of a delivery to dismiss Moeen Ali. He first surprised Ali with a short ball, off which he played an awkward short ball. The next delivery was full and it nipped into Ali who was on the backfoot and by the time his bat came down, the stumps were uprooted! India seem to have found a new star in Aaron who has looked extremely lethal today. Jos Buttler is the new man in.

MM Ali b Aaron 13 (27b)

Over 50 || Score 162/5

Moeen Ali and Joe Root have batted with a cautious approach in the last five overs. The Indian seamers are slowly getting back in their groove and we can expect them to take some more wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has stuck with his line and length while Aaron is using his pace with a lot of variation.

Over 45 || Score 144/5

Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked his first wicket of the match when he pitched a short ball to Jordan, who hit it towards short midwicket and Aaron took a good catch diving to his right. Bhuvneshwar bowled plenty of deliveries which swung away from the batsmen, which included a gem to Ian Bell who edged it to the keeper. Joe Root and Moeen Ali are the two new batsmen at the crease. Good start from India so far.

IR Bell c Dhoni b Kumar 58 (82b)

CJ Jordan c Aaron b Kumar 13 (22b)

Over 40 || Score 133/3

Bell took a single off the last ball of Pankaj Singh's 12th over to reach his half-century off just 63 balls. He has regained his form and India would want to dismiss him as soon as possible. Jordan got two edges in the 39th over which went for boundaries. Indian bowlers have so far not made the English batsmen play too many deliveries. The fourth-wicket partnership is now worth 20 runs.

After a brilliant display of bowling on Day 1, England would now want to post a huge score on Day 2 of the fourth Test. The hosts are already in a commanding position having scored 113/3 against India`s 152 in the first innings.

India managed to pick three wickets on Day 1 as Varun Aaron impressed with his pace and picked two wickets. There will be a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India are once again playing with just three seamers.

Ian Bell is still unbeaten at the crease, and England would want their senior batsman to score another big knock, following a century in the third Test.

Meanwhile on Day 1, Indian team equalled the record for the most number of ducks in a Test innings, with six of their batsmen failing to open their accounts.

Honour for Indian student- Arjit Kansal named MS Power Point 2010 world champ

Posted by admin | | Posted in ,

New Delhi: Sixteen-year old Delhi student Arjit Kansal has been named the 2014 Microsoft Office Specialist World Champion in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010; it was announced here on 4th August. Certiport, a Pearson VUE business and a test delivery solution provider for the global workforce and academic markets, announced the award. Among other things, Kansal was also awarded a $5,000 scholarship during the event at Disney's Grand Californian Resort.
Education News
“It was an amazing feeling, I cannot express it in words,” Kansal, student of Maharaja Agrasen School at Pitampura in west Delhi, said after hearing the news. Asked if he has any plans for his career, he replied: "Not yet."

Kansal, who had scored a perfect 10 in the Class X grading system last year, was sponsored by CyberLearning. In its 13th year, the 2014 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship attracted more than 400,000 unique candidates from 130 countries who competed to demonstrate their mastery of Microsoft Office products. A total of 123 student finalists participated in the final round of competition. "Microsoft Office Specialist certification gives students a way to become tangibly prepared for college or a career," said Margo Day, vice president of US education at Microsoft.

"Today's job market requires computer proficiency and all individuals who earn certification have a valuable credential proving their skills," Day added. "More than 740,000 exams were uploaded as part of this competition, and the MOS World Champions are tops in an elite group of individuals who know how to use Microsoft Office tools effectively," said Bob Whelan, president and chief executive officer, Pearson VUE.

CBSE-like board on cards for skills training standard

Posted by admin | | Posted in ,

New Delhi: The government is working to set up an examination board to benchmark vocational training in the country as it seeks to bring skill development in line with international standards. The labor and employment ministry is framing the structure and role of the proposed board, drawing from the experience of the Central Board of Secondary Education, which sets the curriculum, conducts examinations and regulates the quality of secondary education in the country.

Education News

"Examination system is most critical to benchmark skilled and semi-skilled workers against the best in the world," a senior official of the ministry told."We plan to set up a separate examination board to make the entire process more transparent, robust and match the international standards for vocational training, and eventually enroll youths in the Skill Development Initiative."

Once the central board is in place, it would be entrusted with the responsibility to decide on curriculum, mode of examination and certification at different levels of training. In his budget speech, finance minister Arun Jaitley had announced a new national programme, called Skill India, to impart employability and entrepreneurship skills to youth by merging various schemes from across ministries. India has the world's youngest workforce with over 12 million new entrants in the labour market every year but it is short on skills as only 2.5 per cent of the employees have any certified abilities.

As a result, the country's demographic dividend has not materialized because industry is unable to find employable workers, a situation that could lead to socio-economic unrest if youth remain unemployed and have no training avenues. The labor ministry has already introduced the semester system of examination to avoid negligence both on the part of teachers and students, majority of whom had been enrolling themselves only towards the end of the courses. Besides, it has made re-affiliation of trades compulsory every five year, revamped curriculum and provided rigorous training to principals and teachers to professionalize the exam system, along with introducing flexi MoUs for employers to decide on the kind of skills needed.
